  CASA Volunteer Info

Without volunteers, our CASA programs could not exist. Court Appointed Special Advocates - or simply CASA volunteers - are deeply committed and specially trained to advocate for each child's best interests and how to get those interests met by the child welfare system. They advocate against all odds, power, and bureaucracy; advocate until each child can understand and speak up for his or her unalienable rights; and advocate so children can live a life of destiny, rather than fate.

CASA volunteers, appointed by juvenile court judges, serve as lay Guardian ad Litems (GALs). They gather information from anyone who may be able to shed light on the child's situation. The CASA volunteer attends court proceedings and makes an independent recommendation to the judge about what is in the child's best interests, bringing a sense of urgency to the child's needs.

The CASA volunteer is asked to remain involved until the child's case is permanently resolved.

We provide all the training you need to become a CASA volunteer. After becoming a CASA volunteer, CASA staff provide ongoing supervision of all CASA volunteers. Go to our Training page to learn more about how you can get started!
